And so we enter the eighties. The sound on this album might be of the time, but Bowie had not completely given up his experimental side. The opening It's No Game (Part 1) has a noisy intro, japanese vocals and Bowie yelps a few times along the way. There is some "gothic" quality to some of these songs like the title track (which also includes a pounding industrial beat!) and Ashes To Ashes which was a huge hit even on the underground dance floors. Fashion was another hit from this album and is probably the most radio-friendly tune on here. I might not enjoy the album on the whole (it's in fact the last album he's made that I would consider worthwhile until the turn of the century), but it certainly includes some great numbers which I often put on during parties at home. I know I won't scare anyone off and everyone has a song or two that they like on this album. |
