Brainticket
I've known about Brainticket for quite a while, even listened to their albums on CD and mp3, but it took a sale in a shop to make me go ahead and start buying their records. I really don't know what took me so long because these guys are incredible. There's nothing to really pinpoint their sound even though, for the longest of times, Brainticket have been mixed up into the whole german krautrock scene. Their sound, like that of their german counterparts, was both experimental and psychedelic, but what made them slightly different is the fact that they embraced their drug-tinged imagery and sound. There were themes and concepts behind the records, but it's way too hazy for me to figure anything out. The music and the subject matter made for quite a wild ride, like a bad trip put to tape. Many instruments were used and the blending of folk and electric elements predates the whole folk-psyche scene by thirty years! Some accuse the group of having cheesy prog leanings, but I personally cannot hear this. Even their more "conventional" albums are way more out there than most of what was being done even at the time. This stuff will make you see through time! Way too potent and illegal in some countries!
