Taking it's name from a Nicaraguan cigar box Günter Sommer gave to Brötzmann as a gift, Réservé is a live reunion gig featuring Brötzmann on the sax, Sommer on drums and Barre Philips on double-bass. There are obscure personal reasons behind this reunion concert which I do not fully understand, but even without the knowledge of the story behind the album, the music doesn't lose any of it's appeal. Although quite aggressive in parts, Réservé is often a much smoother listen when compared to Brötzmann's usual work. The thirty-one minutes long title track even dissipates into contemplative territory at times. On Walked Beep is a similarly fascinating number which never gets dull throughout the thirty-five minutes duration of the song. The album ends on an exotic note with Joya De Nicaragua (probably a reference to the aforementioned cigars) and is quite an upbeat tune according to Brötzmann's usual standards.
