I was already starting to be a bit less interested by Can at this point. Future Days still had it's moments, but it just felt too "clean" for my tastes. To me, Can were an experimental rock outfit which constantly challenged me with their aural assaults, but here, it's all quite easy access and pleasant. No great challenge other than the fact that it caught me completely off guard. The beats are very repetitive throughout, and the variations are quite interesting actually as the songs progress, but the beast is tamed. Only Moonshake has a little edge to it which I like. Even the twenty minute Bel Air with it's thick analog synth washes and rapid fire beats feels practically new age to me. I don't believe this album is bad in any way, I believe that bands should evolve as they mature and want to bring in new ideas; but here it just feels like these krautrock legends were getting old. Last album with Damo Suzuki singing. |
