Can's first album with Malcolm Mooney on the mic goes to prove that the band were already at their peak the moment they started. This is pretty aggressive and wild. The bass and drums on Father Cannot Yell are metronome-tight and rocking with the guitar appearing in waves of noise and feedback. All the while, Mooney rants along in harmony. Mary, Mary So Contrary is much smoother number which only intensifies as the song progresses as the tempo remains steady throughout. On Outside My Door the band is joined by the harmonica, kind of strange at first, but it blends in well with this psychedelic track. The first three songs were good, but it's Yoo Doo Right, at twenty minutes, which puts the rest of the album to shame with it's tribal drums and no-holds-barred approach. The band goes completely nutzoid before the end of the track. "You made a believer out of me!" |
