This is the first album fronted by Damo Suzuki, a japanese performer which the band literally picked up off the streets in Germany. Damo is great because he mumbles most of the time and I don't understand what the fuck he's singing about! Often considered to be the band's greatest achievement, the album starts off with Paperhouse which has everything you could ask for in a rock tune, great dynamics, the seamless progression and just enough noise to make it stand out from what was being made at the time. Mushroom includes fun delay effects on the drums, but everything really starts with Oh Yeah, a proof that simple can sometimes be incredibly powerful when well executed. The next three tracks is where the band jumps off the deep end. Especially on Aumgn and Peking O with it's almost hardcore techno tempo and Boredoms-like vocals which will cause your house pets great despair. |
