Wow! This is simply breathtaking! I dare anyone to put this one on and not suddenly drift off into your own head, daydreaming. The sounds of Goldfall are as delicate, fragile and mesmerizing as the first nocturnal snow in the big city, or a warm breeze out in the open fields. This could actually sound like the end result between a hypothetical collaboration between William Basinski and Loren Connors; soft, soporific... absolute bliss. It sounds as if Chalk's only source of audio was a guitar, a Rhodes keyboard and tons of reverb (and I mean tons!) Who needs medicine for the soul when you can listen to this album? Sad it's so expensive, but then again, the artwork is so lovingly done and magnificent all by itself that it justifies the price. Both tracks on Goldfall sound quite similar, but the second track features some backward guitar and keyboard samples. This was first released as a limited LP (300 copies). |
