Album Cover

Easily the most drone-oriented material I have yet to hear from Chalk, I would even go so far as to say Over The Edges rivals with La Monte Young or more accurately Phil Niblock's most uncompromising works. The three parts of the album center around a resonating guitar drone played with an E-bow (I believe!). The results are absolutely beautiful depending on your tolerance of true drone music, but nowhere near as soothing or blissful as Chalk's usual ambient works. Listening to Over The Edges is like sleeping in the middle of a huge power station as the towering structure's many components emit different buzzing tones to create bizarre atonal chords. other noises sometimes interfere, like the clanging of a cable on a pole, the passing of cars and trucks on a far away road or a thunder storm roaring in the distance. I wouldn't suggest this album as a sleeping aid, but as a meditation tool, this must be sublime. This is also available as a limited LP.
