I'm not really sure what these guys are doing to those guitars, I hear some sliding and scraping, but whatever it is, it's out of this world. It's so incredibly minimalist, you recognize the instruments, but they manage to create these completely alien sounds without the use of effects! And then come the vocals, these girls have had no vocal training, yet they sound incredibly haunting, to the point where the hair raises on my neck. And this is just for the title track (mind you it is thirty minutes long!). Things barely change throughout, just the addition of new notes and voices and even with only this, it's the most successful track on the album. The other four tracks are similar but on a smaller scale, that first one is just literally epic! This album was originally released on the band's own Wholly Other label as a limited CD-R and included an extra track by Scorces which is omitted from this Kranky edition.
