Never thought I'd say this about a Circle album, but this is some incredibly powerful and potent stuff that should be handled with care. Even though I do find their frequent metal outings quite amusing at times, I can't say I particularly care much for them; but once in a while the finnish quartet will release an album that is so different and weird that it is impossible for me to ignore. Forest is such a record. At it's most profound, it becomes as rewarding and unique as any of those extremely obscure psychedelic albums you've always heard about but could never find (think Comus, Can Am Des Puig or perhaps German Oak). Distorted electric guitars, Halford-like shrieks and cheesy keyboards have all been replaced by acoustic guitars, creepy choir chants and psychedelic electronic noises. Besides the crappy english vocals (please sing in finnish only!), Forest is a real stunner which has restored by curiosity for the band's other works. More to come! |
