Pori is the group's most experimental album to date, unfortunately, this doesn't make it the best either. Maybe they were going along with the tag everyone had put on the them: krautrock, psych, experimental. But up until now, Circle was just tight, progrock with hints of psych, well done and at times original, but not as great as everyone had made them out to be. The repetitive riffs are back again for most of the album, but so is this tendency to sound way too clean; some of the synth work sounds like some cheesy new-age guy playing keyboards in the subway. Not cool. Three tracks are pure experiments, drones, fake musique concrète, these are the shortest tracks on the album and also the most interesting ones. I would really like to become a bigger fan of the group, but the more I listen to Circle the less of a fan I become. |
