Chris Clark
To be honest, I've only first listened to Chris Clark now in order to write this quick overview text. I found his first CD, Clarence Park, used in a thrift shop for two bucks. It was on Warp Records, a label I usually really enjoy, so what did I have to lose (except for those two dollars)? I was expecting something that was more directed towards dance music (my fault for mixing him up with Chris Mills - heck I had no idea who they both were when I bought this over two years ago!) and that is pretty much why I hadn't listened to it yet.
This sounds a lot like a mix between Boards Of Canada, Casino Vs. Japan and Aphex Twin at his most relaxed (Selected Ambient Works 85-92); warm synth tones, plenty of nostalgic-sounding melodies and hyper-active break-beats (which blend in very well with the wintry sounds). A pleasant surprise I must admit. I've heard the later albums sound more mature, but I have yet to hear them myself. Maybe one day if it ever shows up among the dusty racks of some thrift store I happen to visit.
