I love this album, the duo hadn't yet let go of their noisier roots, but was definitely headings towards the more ambient stuff. Pure trance-inducing drones and noises. The music is loud and thick with reverb but is rarely aggressive. As with the preceding album, for something released back in 1972, it still sounds fresh and in no-way dated. In fact, the sludgy atmospheres are at times reminiscent of what Double Leopards are doing even today (check out Für Die Katz' and Live In Der Fabrik). Im Süden is, to me, the closest the group has come to motorik rock (repetitive riffs ad nauseum with only a slight progression). I adore the bass-synth in this tune. Georgel is a great organ drone number and the album ends with a pounding "music for fucked-up piano and moans" entitled Nabitte. Without a doubt my favorite album by the group.
