The first album by Cluster sans Conrad Schnitzler (leaving Moebius and Roedelius) isn't a far departure from their noisier outings as Kluster. This sounds like a very early effort at ambient industrial soundscapes (pre-dating even Throbbing Gristle). Buzzes, sirens and bleak drones are the most noticeable sounds on the first track. Not such a pleasant listening experience, but fascinating none the less. Doesn't sound dated at all. Track two is the most interesting thing on the album. It starts off with a very slow fade-in of a chugging sound, at about two minutes in, an abrasive drone slowly surfaces and things just get noisier and noisier from then on. At five minutes in, you'd almost expect the boys from Wolf Eyes to suddenly barge in and start screaming their lungs out. Except for the rare blasts of drums or static noise, the last track on the album is a quieter affair and a hint at what was to come. |
