Practically on par with it's predecessor, Songs Of Love And Hate is yet another showcase for Cohen's incredible talent for somber poetry and the exploration of man's darker side; all presented to you in the form of a glowing folk masterpiece. If opening track Avalanche doesn't shake your body and soul at it's core, then you are soulless and heartless my friend. There are tons of classics to be found here, including the beautiful Last Year's Man, Joan Of Arc and my personal favorite, the devastating Famous Blue Raincoat (one of the very first songs I've learned to play on the guitar)! Cohen has a lot to offer and I swear there is something new to discover with each listen. Incredibly rewarding, these early albums by Cohen are very powerful and although he never lost his knack for words, this is where both music and vocals became one and were unaffected by time. This re-release includes one bonus track, hopefully there will be more on the way. |
