Could someone please explain to me why everyone is bitching so much about this record? Sure! No! It's not First Utterance, but simply because the group isn't singing about bloody virgins and going out of their way to sound creepy and disturbing doesn't make them less interesting. Comus were trying new things and besides the subject matter, I find the music as good as on First Utterance. The progrock leanings are not too cumbersome and the guitar riffs are as incredible as ever. Only So Long Supernova and Perpetual Motion really sound like they were trying to get a more commercial sound (and I actually enjoy the Beach Boys-like vocals on the latter piece). And let's not forget the truly out-there filler tracks: Waves And Caves and Panophany, reminders that Comus still have it in them. The mini-LP cover lists eleven songs on the album, but the CD only includes ten. What happened to After The Dream? It's obviously missing. |
