The cover art for this album has got to be the absolute creepiest cover ever! The simple black and white drawing has a hypnotic effect on me (don't stare at it too long or you'll turn to stone) and is actually partly responsible for my being curious about Connors work. Thank God I listened to Airs first though, because no matter how impressive that cover is, the music within is definitely lackluster. If the extremely long (almost twenty-six minutes) Premonition doesn't do you in, then the rest of the album will. I am a fan of drone, but the opening track just sounds thin and empty to me. This is the noise album which Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! Hell! wasn't. Most of these songs are way too bleak and there is none of the balance found on the artist's other records. Only the two last songs have those qualities which make Connors work so endearing, but that's not sufficient to make the album worthwhile on a whole. |
