This album floors me every time. I find it incredibly representative of Connors entire career, from his fragile, lullaby-like airs to his soundscapes and drones via bluesy shorts which are all so emotionally charged it's difficult to remain unaffected by them. The album's theme of love and despair has nothing to do with the emotions it evokes however. Listening to the title track almost has you falling back into childhood with your mother beside you, lulling you to sleep with a gentle song. Bridegroom Of Snow is a long, dark, hallucinatory track all bundled up in a wintry guitar drone which leads the way towards my absolute favorite song by Connors (even compared to tracks off of Airs). Voice Of The Ocean, "Despair Not!" was an epiphany for me. That a song could single-handedly take control of my feelings like that, to the point where I had to remember breathing, was something I had never experienced before.
