This early effort by Connors sounds remarkably similar, but slightly less accessible than it's legend-making predecessor In Pittsburgh. The tunes are quite bluesy once again, but the artist's trademark hazy and fragile sound is unmistakable. What makes some of these tracks a bit more difficult is the fact that Connors often strays away from conventional melody and adventures in bizarre Derek Bailey-esque territory, but nowhere as extreme; whereas Bailey's style of guitar improvisation might at times break practically every single rule of harmony, Connors manages to keep a certain fundamental form on which untrained ears can rely on. Partner Suzanne Langille features once again on a track (Can't Forget) to give his alien blues a soulful vibe. I consider myself a big fan of this artist, yet I had never even heard of this album until I saw it for sale (at a reasonable price) on Gemm.
