Tony Conrad
Probably one of the most important musician/composer of the New York City minimalist scene along with La Monte Young, Conrad's influence and role in the experimental scene of the time and today shouldn't be underestimated. Conrad, along with John Cale and Angus MacLise, was a member of Young's infamous Theater Of Eternal Music (which would lead the way to the formation of Velvet Underground a few years later - with Conrad being responsible for the group's name, having handed out a copy of the famous S&M book to Lou Reed).
Conrad, also a filmmaker, is renowned for his experimental film The Flicker, composed entirely of alternating black and white frames which caused nausea and seizures in a few people in the audience during it's presentation. The soundtrack to the film is as aggravating as the film itself as a buzzing, flickering sound is heard throughout the twenty minute film. One of Conrad's most famous collaborations after the Dream Syndicate years is with german krautrock legends Faust where he plays his famous amplified violin drones over a simple drum beat.
