Cosmic Jokers
If there was but one krautrock super group to have ever roamed on God's green earth, then it must have been the Cosmic Jokers. With Manuel Göttsching of Ash Ra Tempel and synth drone guru Klaus Schulze joined together again, this project was bound to reach new levels of psychedelic mayhem. The USA might have had it's Merry Pranksters, but Germany had it's Cosmic Jokers, no funky bus ride on the old continent however, but plenty of hallucinogenic drugs there must have been. Like a mix between Ash Ra Tempel, Harmonia, Cluster and Schulze's own solo work, these artists created some of the most spaced out jams to come out of the whole krautrock scene, with loads of flanger effects, reverb and delay over repetitive grooves and heavy melodies. Just sit back, smoke a doobie (if that's legal where you are) and enjoy the ride!
Anyone into Ash Ra Tempel's own cosmic explorations are bound to fall upon the Cosmic Jokers like I did. The two just go hand in hand. There is some sort of "best of" CD with their work out there that looks like a stand alone record, but there are so few Cosmic Jokers albums out there, might as well get them all instead of this cheap compilation.
