Couch

National Flag

This group came out when the whole post-rock scene had already reached it's peak and was slowly embarking on it's inevitable decline; bands like Tortoise, Mogwai and Labradford were the talk of the day, and it is impossible not to compare Couch to some of these bands, well actually, they mostly sound like Tortoise. Both bands had this weird jazzy vibe interspersed by moments of pure loudness and rock. It sounds great, but it's just not that original. Ever since the scene's downfall (at about the same time the "clicks & cuts" electronic scene became big in early 2000), Couch has pretty much disappeared off the face of the Earth and I'm not sure if they still are recording music of if they have moved on to newer and better things.

I remember really enjoying their first album when it came out, I was buying pretty much anything that sounded like the bands mentioned earlier, but I never bought anything from this particular band (although I had planned on doing it). It's only when I found a copy of they're second album for mere pennies that I started collecting their stuff, but like so many other artists which I enjoy, but don't cherish, I will most likely only be getting used copies on those rare occasions when there's a bargain to be made. I know I sound less than enthusiastic about this group, but don't get me wrong, I like them! They're good! Trust me!
