Album Cover

Along with Kind Of Blue, this album is Miles' biggest contribution to jazz (among his many masterpieces). He had now fully adopted the fusion sound and the results were both funky and psychedelic (just look at that cover art, some drugs must have been involved at this point). The keyboards on Pharaoh's Dance are out-of-this-world, they bring the piece into uncharted territory. At around eleven minutes into the song, Miles breaks loose and heads way deep into the realm of free jazz. Pretty intense. Again, on the title track, the keyboards sound wonderful and the guitar is more prominent. The short John McLaughlin is another gem which is a showcase for the title musician. The other tracks lean more towards rock/funk and it all still sounds fresh even today! This edition comes with an extra track, Feio which includes plenty of noisy sounds in addition to the meditative improvisation.
