Is this done with tongue-in-cheek? Is this really The Dead C's vision of so-called New Electric Music? Killer certainly sounds like an extremely warped vision of electronic music and could easily have been included on any of Mille Plateaux' Clicks And Cuts compilations (well maybe that's a bit too far-fetched). Don't worry though, the rest of the album brings us back to more familiar noise rock territory (but screw you if you didn't think Killer kicked ass). Hush finds the New Zealander trio in top neanderthal form; pounding away at thick mammoth skins and playing their guitars (sculpted with pterodactyl droppings) through 70-ton limestone amps. It is brutal, it'll reach straight for the gut and you WILL lose your breath and be devastated. Stand would be the perfect soundtrack those long hours of heroin withdrawal while Forever actually lasts forever at almost 31 minutes, but I swear once it's over you'll be asking for more. Monster noise rock at it's fucking best. |
