The Dead Texan
The Dead Texan is the duo of Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie and partner Christina Vantzos (both now living in Belgium). This side project of Wiltzie is not a far departure from his main project as Stars Of The Lid; perfectly calculated attacks and releases of gentle ambient drones with minimal rhythmic elements. The only big difference between the two is that Stars Of The Lid is much more ambient and minimal, there is less singing and very few other instruments join the drones. The Dead Texan on the other hand has an ever so slight pop vibe to their sound, there are hooks in the melodies even though they are sometimes too slow to notice during the first listen. Another thing which is evident after listening to The Dead Texan is that Wiltzie is obviously the brains behind the new direction Stars Of The Lid had taken with The Tired Sounds [...], the earlier albums were much more minimal and guitar driven, whereas it now included melodies and a more obvious progression.
The Dead Texan is also meant to be a vehicle for Vantzos' multimedia animations which are an integral part of the group. Even though the music is available separately, both are meant to be taken as a whole.
