Kevin Drumm
Drumm comes from Chicago's experimental scene where he started off playing "prepared guitar". His first album, Comedy was released with the help of fellow artist Jim O'Rourke. Ever since this album, Drumm's music has gradually shifted towards noisier works in the same league as those of Merzbow. His work is more drone-based than the white noise, static mess of his japanese counterpart and easier to access (that's easy to say about someone who is trying to pummel your ears into a pulp). His love of metal is also a strong factor that surfaces in his music, culminating in the black metal ode Frozen By Blizzard Winds, a collaboration with Lasse Marhaug, which was mentioned in a special about underground metal in Wire Magazine. Besides marhaug, Drumm has also collaborated with swedish saxophonist Mats Gustafsson and japanese guitarist Taku Sugimoto.
I myself started listening to Drumm's music after his association with Wolf Eyes. That and the fact that the cover art for Land Of Lurches really fascinated me for some reason.
