Dungen
These guys are masters at recreating the heavy psych sound of the seventies and still make it sound fresh and relevant today. There is the inevitable folk influence which is especially noticeable on their first two albums, but this has now slowly disappeared and let way for pure psychedelic rock, complete with massive, fuzzed-out guitar solos. These sometimes clash with the sometimes gentle melodies of the songs, but to these ears, it sounds perfect.
It was Pitchfork's review of Ta Det Lugnt which made me decide to check out their music. I found a copy in a local music store and must say I quite enjoyed the album from the very beginning. I gave the earlier albums a listen, but as is often the case with scandinavian bands, there is this commercial tendency in those albums that just gets on my nerves and ruins the album for me. On Ta Det Lugnt however, this tendency is very minimal which makes it a keeper.
