Ekkehard Ehlers
Back in the days of the IDM boom, Ekkehard Ehlers became an important part of the scene. Starting out in the duo Autopoeisies, Ehlers went on to record solo under his own name and his slightly more beat-oriented Auch moniker. He is renowned for using manipulated clips of contemporary composers like Ives and Schoenberg or trying to "translate" famous artists sound into electronica (on Plays). I personally fell in love with his work when I first heard his Plays John Cassavetes, this work reminded me of the works of Wolfgang Voigt as Gas (he had been inactive under this name for a while and Ehlers' work satisfied my craving for similar music). Most of his work is on the extremely minimal side, but a few exceptions stand-out like the aforementioned Play and his wonderful collaboration with Stephan Mathieu, Heroin.
