Fahey's fourth album, The Great San Bernardino Birthday Party, was the first time the guitarist pushed the envelope of what was expected from a solo acoustic guitar album (something that was practically unheard of before him). Just take a look at that title track, a nineteen minute long front porch raga which will have you stomping your feet to the beat one minute and go into a meditative trance the next. The varying amount of reverb throughout this epic even adds a touch of psychedelia to the tour-de-force performance. This album is for all you THC-freaks out there (Fahey was a renowned smoker in the day). Light it up, lay back and listen to this album in it's entirety. After the epiphanic journey that is the first track, your minds will also be blown by Will the Circle Be Unbroken which finds Fahey joined by a spaced-out electric organ, or 900 Miles and it's flower power flute melody. The Incredible String Band are most likely familiar with this album.
