Family Underground
Not much seems to have come out of Denmark in the experimental music scene lately. In fact, the last artists I can remember who specifically came from there were Whigfield *shudders* and more recently, Junior Senior (the Laurel & Hardy of electro pop music) and their fifteen minutes of fame. These two names were not very promising and gave the illusion that all that could surface from there would be commercial blandness. But lo and behold, here comes an odd little outfit known as Family Underground (not to be confused with the garage rock of Family LSD). These guys create their own brand of noise-drone which is similar in spirit to Double Leopards, in fact the two have sister releases on the italian label Qbico.
I've known about the group for quite a while but never bothered to actually purchase one of their albums, there was just too much being released and I had to prioritize. It was only with their release on the belgian label Sloow Tapes, a label I enjoy quite a lot and of which I try to obtain everything that I finally went ahead and started collecting their work. Although I don't find them all that original when compared to the aforementioned Double Leopards and other drone based noise artists before them, this is only because they came so late into the scene, otherwise Family Underground's (or FU's) drone-noise is as good (if not more interesting at times) as their contemporaries.
