Everything I didn't like about the first Faust album, I like this time around: the cheesy melodies, the vocal interactions and even the silly lyrics! The humor is much more obvious this time around, but it is framed within much more mature music. It's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl is an absolute classic. There's a tension in the song which gives it's listener the impression that the song is about to "begin" at any moment, but it never does, it just keeps going and going, adding layers of sound as it goes along without ever getting tedious. In fact, I don't believe there is a dull moment throughout the album. I still cannot identify what is making those loud burbling noises in the background of Mamie is Blue! Me Lack space... sounds like what was about to come on The Faust Tapes. A very unique album, full of surprises and who's influence can be heard in many of today's bands, from Stereolab, to The Butthole Surfers. |
