Ferial Confine
This very early solo project by Andrew Chalk focuses almost exclusively on dark, evocative soundscapes with a noisier approach than is habitual with Chalk. Ferial Confine reminds me at times of AMM with their unorthodox use of musical instruments. Listening to one of the artist's records isn't unlike spending the day in some workshop or manufacture, but somehow, deep within all the scraping, crackling and shuffling of noise, a certain emotion arises and tension is built. One of the most rewarding noise acts out there. Unfortunately, this project ended back in 1986 and albums that surface today are remasters of these old recordings. Essential listening for all fans of noise.
