Ever since I've first heard Mon Lion on the Acid Mothers Temple family compilation triple CD "Do Whatever You Want, Don't Do Whatever You Don't Want!!/What?", I've been hooked to Tara Burke's version of outsider folk-psych. And since then, I've been looking for my own copy of the extremely limited (one hundred copies) CD-R version of Mandrake; without luck so far, but believe me, if a copy ever shows up on eBay, I'll be dishing out the big bucks, so stand clear. This album has become some sort of Holy Grail for me and I'm not about to let any opportunity pass by me. Most of her songs are quite simple, but they are very charming and addictive, like a drug. You try it once and your hooked for life and God knows if her brand of psychedelia can burn brain cells. They sure sound as if they could.

I've had a chance to meet her before a performance she gave in a small club in downtown Stockholm, Sweden. I was lucky enough to chat with her a while and asked her how she met with Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple fame and how the release of Mandrake came about. I even tried to pressure her into asking Ed Hardy of Eclipse Records (who released the LP version of the album) to release it on CD, but as you can tell, no dice up until now. Unfortunately, I had to catch a train before the show even started that night, so I missed my chance of seeing her perform live (I'll probably regret this for the rest of my life). I did manage to get a hold of a few self-released albums which she had with her at the time (The Cult From Moon Mountain and Amulet).
