Ghosts On Water
Ghosts On Water is a trio consisting of ambient/drone composer Andrew Chalk with experimental japanese musicians Daisuke and Naoko Suzuki. Together they create bizarre ambient soundscapes which can at times be either completely dreamy and hazy or eerie and disturbing. This is the creepy bad trip to Chalk's blissful anesthetic. Some of the vocal pieces are close in spirit to La Monte Young's own sinewave/vocal exercises; hypnotic yet oddly disquieting. The creepier numbers on the other hand are sometimes as disturbing as the mellower compositions by Igor Wakhévitch (which is saying a lot considering how deeply warped most of the french composers work is). Although Chalk's trademark sound is discernable, Ghosts On Water gives the artist a chance to dabble once again in noisier territory and strange atmospheres. Turn off the lights, make sure no light seeps into your room, put one of these albums on and raise the volume.
