Godheadsilo
The original bass/drums noise-rock duo which would influence such later acts like Lightning Bolt or even Thrones (which is only one guy actually). When I first heard the duo over ten years ago while working in a mainstream music store, they became prime examples of what "alternative" music was supposed to be: it wasn't exactly rock, there were no clearly sung vocals but plenty of cool riffs; it wasn't really metal (although the artwork would sometimes make you believe otherwise), the music wasn't fast enough, no crunchy distortion and crazy guitar solos. It was somewhere in between and also had had a certain degree of weirdness. Cro-magnon rock would be a nice description.
I remember seeing them live in a small venue in Montreal opening for the then up and coming Trans Am. Godheadsilo stole the show away from them. The drummer was sitting behind a minimal set up (if I remember right it was only a bass drum with the skin side up and two cymbals) and the scrawny bass player, sporting a small moustache and a Rocky the movie t-shirt, was blasting away his four strings and yelling like a madman in his microphone. Intense! I don't know why I never purchased anything by them before, but I bought all four albums when I found them on sale in a mainstream music store here in Sweden.
