Manuel Göttsching
Ash Ra Tempel's main man goes out on his own. Göttsching's earlier albums were not very different to his work in one of krautrock's most important groups, but as time evolved, his sound became more and more electronic. Albums like New Age Of Earth became early examples of what would later be considered new age music: soft electronic ambiences whose sole purpose was to induce relaxation in the listener. This would account for some music stores actually categorizing his earlier Ash Ra Tempel project as new age (I can only imagine the poor sap, fresh out of his yoga course, buying the first Ash Ra album and sipping on his camomile tea, traumatized and planning how to return the CD).
His all electronic album E2-E4, which he composed as mood music for long flights, would later become the foundations of house music and was even sampled later on and turned into an early dance hit. The only reason I started listening to his music was because Spalax Music, who also released his work in Ash Ra Tempel, had it on CD. I'm not as much of a fan of Göttsching, but am ready to recognize his influence on the post-rock and house music of today.
