Graveyards
I was surprised to find out Graveyards had links to Wolf Eyes (John Olson is one of three members), but I was even more shocked when I heard them for the first time. Where was all the aggression and noise I expected? Instead I get this relatively relaxed free jazz stuff. Like some groggy Albert Ayler after a night out. Some of Graveyards work is practically silent at times! So what gives?
I probably would only have heard of this group by name had it not been released on Sloow Tapes, a label I try to collect everything from. They have never disappointed me yet and by letting me hear Graveyards (with force almost), they're still bowling a perfect game. This is some truly great free form jazz which should appeal to anyone into weird music and especially work by John Zorn and Ayler.
