Growing

As a fan of drone and doom metal, you start looking around for other artists that might fit that bill or spark your interest. During my own searches I fell upon the name of Growing a few times. I dismissed the name the first few times, the name sounded pretty lame and it just didn't catch my attention at all. But eventually the name started showing up more and more, so at that point you start asking yourself "alright, what's all the fuss about" and you go out and find a record. I went to a store in downtown Stockholm and asked to listen to one of their records (surprisingly enough they had one) and I was still not impressed, so I let it pass. The search went on and the name kept on coming back, taunting me, in magazines, in internet reviews, in blogs... Shit! Maybe I didn't listen carefully enough. Then came the limited releases on tape and that made me decide to go ahead and buy something. If I'm missing out on something I want the good stuff.

When I finally listened to them for a second time, I realized that this wasn't your typical drone metal/doom metal band, some of it was just pure drone, no distortion whatsoever and this made me even more curious so I went out and purchased the album I had listened to in the store and since then, I have become a collector. Yes, Growing do have a certain touch of doom, the distorted guitars are there, but what makes them different is that they don't just stick to that genre, some other songs are practically ambient, the sleep-inducing kind. With such a varying, but unique sound, you earn my respect.
