Markus Guentner
If you like Gas, then it goes without saying that you will also like Markus Guentner. Not only is the guy on the same label owned by Wolfgang Voigt (aka Gas), but he also sounds a bit like him. No, there are no string arrangements, no four on the floor house beats far away in the background, no references to nature, Guentner doesn't emulate his label mate, yet he also has created some of the most beautiful and grandiose ambient music out there at the moment.
I found out about Guentner after hearing a track on one of the Pop Ambient series on the Kompakt label. I searched the net to get more information and many were mentioning (even back then) that Markus Guentner was the next Gas. That might sound unoriginal, but it's only normal to try and find artists that are similar to one's personal taste in music. There are obvious differences in both artists' approach to ambient, but I must agree that Guentner more than lives up to the expectations.
