Leoš Janáček
Before there was Janáček, there was Anger, Kenneth Anger that is. I was familiar with the composers name, but I had never heard any of his works until I saw Anger's incredible Inauguration Of The Pleasuredome on DVD. Anger is known to constantly rework his films, changing the editing, switching soundtracks, etc. But when it came time to release a collection of his works on DVD, he chose Janáček's Glagolitic Mass as the soundtrack to the incredible head trip that is Inauguration. The music and the film seem to have been made for each other. The chemistry is simply breathtaking and I had to find out more. I of course needed to find a good version of the mass which took a while considering the number of different interpretations. I'm happy with the one I found, but I will most likely be getting others as well. I'm still not quite familiar with the rest of the composer's works, but as soon as I have had enough of the Glagolitic Mass, I will move on (which is likely to take quite a while!)
