Thomas Köner
As half of techno-glitch outfit Porter Ricks, I was surprised when I heard Thomas Köner's solo work. This was music for the tundra, the soundtrack to the ice caps melting, a symphony for the movement of continents. This music is dark and slow; more doom than any of your favorite sludge metal bands with some of the loudest, glass-shattering bass sounds you will ever hear. Köner's music is at times so gloomy and cold that I get the chills just listening to it. You'll probably need to put a suit on! Difficult at times, some works border on silence and the use of drone is constant; but always rewarding.
I used to own all of his album's on CD before but sold them all to move Sweden back in 2003. "I'll just buy them back sooner or later", I thought. Unfortunately, most of this artist's discography has been out-of-print since then and the prices for albums have drastically jacked up. To get Teimo back, I paid three times what I originally paid when I got the Permafrost/Teimo double album CD! I do plan on getting everything I used to have since I love this man's work, but it'll be a while. Köner is also half of ambient noise duo Kontakt Der Jünglinge.
