Mattijuhani Koponen
Pekka Airaksinen might have been behind the console, creating most of the music for the legendary underground finnish collective The Sperm, but it was Mattijuhani Koponen who was the brains behind the whole project. He was the group's leader and philosopher and he wasn't afraid to use shock tactics to get his point across (although today it seems that too many people focus on this side of The Sperm and that it was actually not such a big deal even back then even though they did make the headlines at times). The most famous performance by Koponen was when he simulated sex on a grand piano during a Sperm happening. He was arrested for this act and a spent a few months in jail. There's a long period of inactivity after these early years, but Koponen went on to record a few rare compositions and worked mostly in theater. His spirit of experimentation was always alive throughout the years and this can be heard even on his few recorded releases. He has also collaborated with former colleague Pekka Airaksinen for a performance during the nineties (Closed Gardens).
