Labradford
Extra drowsy rock? Ritalin pop? This Richmond, Virginia trio were one of the first artists from the Kranky label to receive wide attention for they're original brand of dreamy rock. With long, drawn out (almost drone) melodies, Labradford would cause it's listener to feel as if he or she had just been drinking fifteen bottles of cough syrup. The dark yet pleasant atmosphere the group creates often manages to lull the listener into a daze. I wouldn't exactly say it's music to fall asleep to, they do have their more experimental moments, but I definitely wouldn't suggest listening to this while driving your car. Seriously!
I personally started listening to them after Montreal s Godspeed You! Black Emperor turned me on to the Kranky label. I immediately fell in love with Labradford who's work also had, at times, this film soundtrack quality. I prefer their earlier albums, before the electronic elements took on a more prominent role, but even some of the later albums are absolutely breathtaking.
