Lau Nau
Lau Nau is the solo project of Laura Naukkarinen. As is typical of the whole finnish underground music scene (or should I say family?), she is also a member of other groups; in this case: Kiila, Päivänsäde, The Anaksimandros and most notably Hertta Lussu Ässä (with fellow female musicians Islaja and Kuupuu). Her music is more of the forest-folk type (like Kuupuu for example) than the weird-ass-rock type (like Avarus). It all sounds very sweet and innocent and the fact that she sings in her native tongue adds a certain exoticism to her music. It seems to be a prerequisite with the finnish scene to use whatever instrument you may find to create your music, and Lau Nau is no exception, the Locust Music site mentions the use of "colorful juice glasses", "bike bells" and "beer cans" on her album Kuutarha. Just goes to prove you don't need a whole bunch of fancy equipment to create music that is both engaging and sensitive.
