MV Don't Play No Folk/The Belle Of Sweet, the opening track to this early MV+EE album, sounds like Jandek trying to play Fahey; not very psychedelic, just plain weird. The drugs do start kicking in on the next track however and from then on it's all about letting go and seeing the sounds. The sitar gives a nice eastern touch to Refried Cocola while the lo-fi, ultra distorted sounds of Gennet & C.O.M. and The Battle Of The Memorial Budge add even more flavor to an already colorful album. None of the other so-called folk-psych artists come even close to the level of drug-infused enlightenment these two manage to put into aural form (not even Fursaxa, who comes in at a close second). As with all Child Of Microtones releases, this album (which features striking artwork) is limited to only 99 copies. |
