This album would later be re-released on vinyl as Ragas & Blues. Both versions are now out-of-print of course with the CD-R version (housed in an orange-tinted slim jewel case) being limited to 99 copies. Here's another fresh set of finely toasted folk gems. If Refried Cocola Again doesn't manage to induce numbness in your limbs or see shapes where there are none, you'll need to toke a few extra hits from that wizard bong. Seriously though, this album displays a great balance between the duo's eastern-tinged and appalachian folk influences, often shifting from one to the other within one song. For a second, you'll feel like your smoking it up with Apu and Rajid in an opium den and the next you'll be sitting on the porch with grandpa (who's smoking his pipe and pettin' ole Rex) while you're sipping on a glass of bourbon... and that's when you're not already in deep space. |
