This second entry in the Lunar Blues series finds MV+EE taking on my favorite track off of the album. Freight Train is a fun little number which sounds like the intro to some generic kids show from the eighties... on the original album. On here, the sound quality is quite lower and they add this nasty fuzz-guitar which sounds like an annoying mosquito having a go at your eardrums in the middle of the night. They really managed to take this innocent little tune, extend it to five times it's original length, and transform it into an all-out psychedelic jam worthy of Ash Ra Tempel at their most freaked-out. Oh Death, the b-side, is a dark, bluesy jam which features Erika Elder's vocals. The reverb on this song makes it practically sound like an amateurish cover of a Cranes song bordering on drone. |
