This first volume in MV+EE's Rural Ragas series gives plenty more of the duo's patented psych-folk to enjoy. At this point, there isn't many surprising elements to the group's sound; you know what to expect when you pop that CD-R into your stereo, you know you're in for one heck of a spiritual ride as soon as the first sounds hit your eardrums. Listen to a song like Moon Nothingness and tell me this isn't the most alien and freak-out brand of folk music you've ever heard. Livestock [...] is definitely one of their most psychedelic outings in a long time with plenty of electronic noises coming in to make these songs transcend their original forms and become weird spectral entities of their own. This is music possessed by buddhist deities, portals into visions and distorted thoughts, enlightenment and completely fucked up mental state. Listen at own risk. Comes in a nice thick booklet-style package. |
