Matt Valentine and Erika Elder are two artists who also work with the legendary Tower Recordings. Their music is folk music of the most psychedelic kind with plenty of reverb and exotic sounds and instruments. Their sound is also very influenced by traditional appalachian folk song and John Fahey style finger picking. Since the late nineties, the duo have been releasing their work on their own Child Of Microtones label and releasing CD-Rs in editions of ninety-nine copies (sometimes even less). So you can basically count yourself as lucky to even be able to hear their work! This rarity is what attracted me in the first place, I was seeing copies disappear in a matter of hours at Eclipse Records. So naturally, I had to hear what all the fuss was about. Thankfully, their work, even though it is quite uneven from release to release, is very imaginative and charming. Since then, I've been collecting every new album and seeking the older ones. The duo also release some of their work with a few more friends as The Bummer Road.
