MV+EE (here joined by "The Wolf Pack") are not only renowned to have created some of the most potent acid-folk out there today, but also for their original take on American folk song (and some Neil Young tunes!). Old Black Joe was originally composed by Stephen Foster in 1860 and reprised by Paul Robeson in the 30's. The song references to the cotton fields and ultimately slavery. In this duo's hands however, the song becomes not so much a lament, but a full blown psychedelic experience. It's lazy nature and pace sure makes it sound like both artists are playing while on heavy sedatives. Not sure if it's meant to bring a new perspective on the classic folk tune, but it sure is a fun listen. The b-side's Huna Cosm is a much more discombobulated affair and sounds like something Jandek might cough up before his morning coffee. It's not exactly top-notch material by the duo, but it's far from boring (and you get to hear Zuma)! Limited to 500 copies.
